Second Edition
Edited by Paulette M. McManus

ISBN: 1-873132-67-0 • 2000 • $50 • Paper

This revised second edition of Archaeological Displays and the Public contains new material which reflects the current concerns of all those who work to bring the "there and then" into the "here and now" for those who visit exhibitions and sites. The book retains chapters of perennial concern and its three-part structure of "The Institutional Setting," "Archaeology Indoors: Museum Exhibitions" and "Archaeology Outdoor: Site Interpretation and Education." This volume will be an invaluable source book for professional interpreters, site managers, museum professionals and students on museum studies and heritage courses.

Arab Paper
Joseph von Karabacek (trans. Don Baker)

ISBN: 1-873132-02-6 • 2001 • $35 • Paper

Bibliophiles in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century began to take a serious interest in the manuscripts of the Middle East and the paper on which they were written. Perhaps the most important of these men were C.-M. Briquet working in Geneva, and J. Wiesner and J. von Karabacek working in Vienna. All three were concerned with the burning topic of the moment: Was oriental paper made of cotton? Within the space of two years these three writers published seminal articles for the European study of Arab paper. Das Arabische Papier is one of those articles. The late Don Baker’s inspiration to set about the translation and interpretation of this work was ‘simply the desire to know the contents of this much quoted article’. Students, historians, curators, collectors, conservators and all those interested in the historical development and spread of papermaking will soon realise why Don Baker wished to make this important text available to readers of English.

Archaeological Parenchyma
Edited by Paulette M. McManus

ISBN: 1-873132-42-5 • 2000 • $65 • Paper

Parenchyma is plant storage tissue, commonly found in roots, tubers,
rhizomes and corms. The parenchymous remains of roots and tubers are increasingly becoming recognised as an important category of plant remain alongside seeds, fruits and wood charcoal. Identification is however frequently viewed as problematical and such important indicators of past diet are often left unidentified. This book describes the full range of anatomical and morphological characters used in the identification of the parenchymous remains of roots and tubers. Each of the characters is illustrated by photographs of modern and archaeological plant tissues and by line drawings. Further sections of the book also deal with the examination of archaeological tissues and the preparation of modern plant tissue reference collections.
